In celebration of Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2025, we caught up with Scot Agri Apprentice, Ben Fleming, to dive into his journey as an apprentice. From the skills he’s mastered to the hands-on experience he’s gained, Ben told us what makes his apprenticeship so valuable. Keep reading to discover his enthusiasm for the industry, the skills he’s developed, and what he finds most rewarding about his apprenticeship in agriculture!

1. What motivated you to apply for the Scot Agri apprenticeship?

I was motivated to apply for the Scot Agri apprenticeship because of their well-known reputation and their variety of world class manufacturers.

2. What skills have you learned so far within your apprenticeship?

Throughout my apprenticeship I have learned how to strip down and rebuild a 4cyl engine at college, how to carry out a pre delivery inspection and how to do services on machinery in the workshop.

3. What do you enjoy the most about your apprenticeship?

I most enjoy travelling to farms in the van to see machinery getting put to work. This allows me to visit different parts of the countryside and meet customers.

4. What advice would you give someone who is applying for an apprenticeship?

My advice for someone who is applying for an apprenticeship would be to just go for it! An apprenticeship allows you to meet a wide variety of people both at college and work. You’re also given opportunities to travel for example, I’m going down to JCB factory at the end of this month!
